  • 5) Where do I meet Store Your Dorm on the day of my appointment?

Your Store Your Dorm campus representative will contact you on the phone number you provided and meet you at the entrance to your building. Please ensure your phone is turned on and fully charged.

  • 6) How many days do most students need to pack their things?

Most students require 5 to 7 days to pack up their things. Remember the earlier you book the more time you will have to pack!

Student Packing Tips

  • 1) I want to store a fridge, what do I need to do before storing it?

About 24 hours before your scheduled pick-up appointment remember to unplug your fridge. Remove all the food from your fridge and start to dry the inside as the ice from your freezer compartment melts. If your fridge is not completely dry at the time of your pick-up appointment we will not be able to take it for storage.

  • 2) How is it best to pack my glassware?

If you don’t have bubble wrap and you are worried about your glassware, one way to pack your glass is to use newsprint and any soft items you have like towels, bed linen or clothing. We highly recommend filling out the label on the box with “glassware” so that you go to unpack the box you know which box to unpack slowly and carefully!

  • 3) Do I need to put my name on the boxes?

We ask at a minimum that all students write their name on each box.

  • 4) Can I put textbooks in the large boxes?

We ask that all students store textbooks in the textbook boxes or smaller sized boxes we provide. If large boxes are full of textbooks they will become too heavy and we will not be able to take them.

Storage Questions

  • 1) Do I receive a record of what I put into storage?

All customers receive a receipt outlining a detailed list of the number of items or boxes stored. This is provided at the pick-up appointment.

  • 2) Where are my items stored?

Your items are stored at one of our climate-controlled, 24 hour security monitored facilities in the city of your university/college.

  • 3) What do I do If I’m not sure how many boxes I need?

We suggest that customers order additional boxes. We only charge you for the boxes we take away on the day of your pick-up. Any unused boxes can be given back to your Store Your Dorm representative so that we can give them to another customer to use.

  • 4) Can I access my goods over the summer?

Items can be delivered over the summer however a surcharge may be placed on accessing and delivering these items outside of our regular delivery periods. Please contact us with advanced notice to arrange summer deliveries.

  • 5) Do I need to be present for the appointments?

Yes, we ask that customers are present for their appointments. If you are not present and your friend or roommate misses the appointment a secondary appointment charge will be incurred. Store Your Dorm holds no responsibility for delivering your things to a friend and having those items go missing.

  • 6) What do I need to do to be ready for the pick-up appointment?

Please ensure you are ready 10 minutes before your appointment in case we are running ahead of schedule. Please ensure your phone is turned on so your representative can get in touch with you. Payment is due at pick-up so we ask that you are prepared to pay.

Items such as suitcases, musical instruments or sports equipment should have your name placed on them somewhere. If you do not have a baggage tag your representative will bring one with them so your non-boxed items will be properly stored and identified for the delivery.

Delivery Questions

  • 1) How do I retrieve my belongings?

We ask that you provide us with at least 7 days notice before you want your items back. Please fill out our re-delivery booking form.

  • 2) Do you deliver off-campus?

Store Your Dorm does deliver off-campus. Charges may apply if your new address is further than 5km than the pick-up address.

  • 3) What If I am moving further than 5km from the Pick-up address?

Please contact us by email or phone to find out the delivery surcharge that will be applied. For deliveries in a different city from the pick-up address we may have to use Canada Post, UPS, or FedEx to facilitate delivery.

  • 4) What happens if i am coming back after the first day of classes?

If you are arriving after the beginning of classes please indicate this to us when you book. We may have to deliver your things to a friend or roommate so that you are not charged additional storage fees.

Payment Questions

  • 1) What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, cheque, email money transfer (e-Transfer), Visa or MasterCard.

  • 2) When is payment due?

Payment is due on the day of of your pick-up appointment.

  • 3) Is there any hidden fee?

Absolutely not. Unlike other moving/storage companies, we don't work with moving hourly rates, overweighted boxes fees, long distance fees, or re-delivery fees.

You ONLY get charged  for what you store and a standard moving fee of $140 which covers everything, the drop off, pick up, and re-delivery of your boxes.

Example: Did you get 5 boxes and only use 2? Not a problem at all, we will only charge you for the 2 boxes.

Insurance Questions

  • 1) Are my stored items insured?

Every box that is stored with Store Your Dorm is covered with $100 of free insurance coverage. Non boxed items do not receive insurance coverage.

  • 2) What does the insurance coverage cover me for?

The $100 of free insurance coverage per box stored extends to theft, fire or water damage. There is no coverage for mold, tears, rips, stains, broken glass or leaks. Because we do not inspect your goods before picking them up nor do we open your boxes prior to storing them we cannot be held liable for any damage resulting from the way you pack your items.
